April 22, 2026, Silas Freyburger - Industrial engineering dual study program
I had the opportunity to spend the first three months of 2026 in Prague as part of my dual degree program. The goal of my internship abroad was to support the local Rutronik office while gaining practical experience overseas. My trip began in the late morning with a flight to the Czech capital. I was relieved to find that my accommodation was well-chosen: conveniently located near our office and downtown, yet quiet and relaxing after work.
Two days later, my internship began at the Rutronik office in Prague. The team welcomed me with open arms right from the start. The branch is relatively small and consists of a total of seven employees from various departments. In addition to Czech and English as the company languages, some colleagues also spoke German, which helped me a lot, especially in the beginning. Even though I didn’t learn to speak Czech fluently, I was at least able to pick up the most important words. That was particularly advantageous outside the office.
Right from the start, I gained insights into various tasks and processes. I was well integrated from the very beginning, which allowed me to quickly find my footing in my new daily routine. During my internship, I had the opportunity to shadow my colleagues in different departments and contribute to smaller projects. I particularly enjoyed meetings with external contacts and gaining insights into local market conditions, which differ significantly from those in Germany in some respects.
Of course, I also had time outside of work to explore Prague and the surrounding area. I went on several trips with my colleagues. This allowed me to experience the city not only from a tourist’s perspective but also from the locals’ point of view. Among my personal highlights were the Old Town with its winding alleys and Charles Bridge, a trip to the famous brewery in Plzeň, a visit to Karlovy Vary, and a boat ride on the Vltava River. Prague uniquely blends history and old architecture with modern neighborhoods. Thanks to the very well-developed public transportation system, it was easy to get around the entire city quickly. I also have particularly fond memories of the many small cafés and the delicious food during my lunch breaks.
I can say that the past three months have been a very valuable time for me, during which I had to face a number of challenges, but which also allowed me to grow both professionally and personally. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire on-site team for their support, the pleasant collaboration, and the time we spent together, which I will look back on with fond memories.
