As part of this year’s business etiquette seminar, participants received a practical introduction to the rules and expectations of professional conduct in the workplace. Led by Ms. Wingenroth, the seminar covered key behaviors for interacting respectfully with business partners, supervisors, and colleagues, with the aim of helping participants gain greater confidence and poise in their daily work lives.
At the start of the training, the art of greeting played a central role. The importance of making a friendly first impression was emphasized. An open body language, eye contact, and a polite smile establish a foundation for conversation and convey a professional image. Especially in a business context, it is crucial to address people correctly and to introduce oneself clearly and distinctly.
Another focus was on dress code and appearance. The right clothing contributes significantly to one’s public image and should always be appropriate for the specific professional situation. Well-kept clothing, a neat appearance, and an appropriate style underscore one’s professionalism and show respect for the person you’re speaking with. It was emphasized that clean and well-fitting clothing is important.
When introducing oneself, the importance of a structured and respectful opening was emphasized. A brief, clear exchange of names—and, if applicable, job titles—helps build trust. Participants were also taught how important it is to listen attentively to the person they’re speaking with and to show interest.
A particularly practical part of the seminar was the handshake. This is still considered an important element of greetings in business. A firm but not overly strong handshake, accompanied by eye contact, conveys self-confidence and reliability. At the same time, participants were reminded to be mindful of cultural differences and to adapt their behavior to the situation. Emphasis was also placed on the various rules regarding the order in which people shake hands.
Finally, table etiquette was discussed. Especially during business meals, a professional demeanor can leave a good impression. This includes basic rules such as waiting until everyone is seated at the table, the proper use of cutlery, and maintaining a polite tone. Even small details, such as how to place the napkin or avoiding disruptive behavior, were covered.
In summary, the business etiquette training provides valuable support for everyday professional life. The content covered helps participants present themselves with confidence and professionalism, avoid misunderstandings, and leave a positive impression.
